Review: Peggy's Point Lighthouse, Nova Scotia

After our lobster lunch at Ryers Lobster Retail, we drove over to Peggy's Point Lighthouse.  It was already 1:30pm by the time we got there, and the sun is brightly beating down, but with the light breeze it was a beautiful and comfortable day.

Peggy's Point Lighthouse is one of the most photographed places in the maritimes, and resides majestically on top of rocks with neighbouring waves crashing in, creating a beautiful picture perfect scene.

There is a free parking lot at the top, extremely close to the lighthouse, so don't park too early at the base of the cliff.  I would also recommend getting there as early as possible, as it tends to get busier throughout the day. The only thing is that, personally, I'm not sure that I would do this route again on a port day.  To get the rental car, drive to the lighthouse and back in time before the cruise ship closes the gate, AND return the rental car was a bit stressful.  We were so pressed for time that we didn't end up enjoying the scenery as much as we could have.  I think next time we'll choose to stay in town and visit the Maritime Museum instead and hit the lighthouse on a road trip when we actually have more time.

  • Score: 8/10
    • 3/4 for enjoyment
    • 4/4 for value (it's free!)
    • 1/2 for location (1 hour drive from Halifax)
