Review: East Park Campground, Pelee Island

East Park Campground is a car camping site for those visiting Pelee Island.  The rates are extremely reasonable ($20/ site per night), and they have clean shower and washroom facilities available.  Firewood can be purchased at the site.

The only problem is we came during the mufflehead season, and they are literally, EVERYWHERE.  There are at least 100 of them on our car at any given time, and although they do not bite, they are a big nuisance.

Still, we had a fairly good camping experience.  There is not much by way of a scenery, but it is a fun camping trip none-the-less, and WAY cheaper than staying at a B&B.

My only advice?  Just don't go to Pelee Island during mufflehead season. They are SO. ANNOYING.

You can find out of the mufflehead season has started/ ended by visiting the MayFly News website here.

Summary

  • The Bottom Line: Economical way to spend the night at Pelee Island.
  • Score: 6.5/10
    • 1.5/5 for experience - mufflehead invasion
    • 5/5 for the cheapest way to spend a night at the island

  1. It's unfortunate that lots of vegan restaurants and stores are far from most city centers. Best Camping Hammock

  2. I read the whole reviews here and some online about this campground. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
My husband and I came to the conclusion that this was one of the best campgrounds we’ve been to.
The service was OUTSTANDING! Vanessa was very nice and helpful. We even got our money back for one night after we got a spot available in the ferry.

We chose site 20 by the restrooms. We enjoyed all the privacy. By the way, the restrooms were very very clean! Nothing to complain about.

Someone wrote about the flies. Indeed, when you go campingyou should expect all the bugs/mosquitoes that come along.... however I now understand that person’s review. Often times I go hiking/camping with my husband. Not always car camping, though. I’d say the flies and bugs were way too annoying!!! There were many.... I mean, A LOT!!! The mosquitoes made us think twice if we wanted to go back to the campground or stay at another place drinking and eating. We opted for the latter.
Despite this, we still liked the campground and it’s location.
For sure when I come back to PI, I’ll stay at East Park again!
